Some SAP Users and Consultants might be asking “how the system determines the posting date of depreciation during AFAB transaction“.
I would be happy to share my understanding and analysis of the process.
In SAP standard generally, the asset accounting uses the same fiscal year variants as in financial accounting. Let’s say for example, your company code is using fiscal year variant which corresponds with the calendar year. The number of periods is 12 from January to December plus 4 special periods from 13 to 16.
Your asset accounting uses also the same fiscal year variants. If you set that depreciation should be posted monthly, then you are required to run AFAB Depreciation posting run every period. During AFAB, an accounting documents are created which contain this entry:
Dr. Depreciation expense
Cr. Accumulated depreciation
You can display the accounting document through transaction FB03. You will notice that the posting date is always the last day of the month. Say for instance, you run depreciation for March (period 3) the posting date of the accounting document is March 31, 2009.
That’s how the system determine the posting date of AFAB depreciation posting.
