What is a customer master record? Well, it contains data that controls how business transactions with the customers are recorded and processed by the system. Furthermore, it also includes all the information about a customer which you will need in order to conduct business with them. It is a requirement that a customer master record should be created in the system before you can conduct business with the customer.
The customer master record are divided into three areas, namely; General data, Company code-specific data, and Sales area data. Each area is explain as follows:
a. General Data - The data contain in this area are equally relevant to all company code and to all sales organization within a company. Information under this area include , e.g. the customer’s name, address, language, and telephone data. Any changes on data under this area will definitely applicable and valid to all company codes who are using the same customer.
b. Company Code-specific Data – This area reflects Company code-specific agreements with the customer. All information under this data are specific to an individual company code. Data under this area include, e.g., the reconciliation account, the terms of payment, and dunning procedures. Any changes of data under this area won’t affect the the data of other company code who are using the same customer.
c. Sales Area Data – Data under this area are relevant to the sales organizations and distribution channels of a Company. Example of those data are as follows: order processing data, shipping information and billing information.
